Problems with modem dialout

I tried to setup the modem for dialout and failed. There is a link from /dev/modem to
/dev/cua1 as required by my configuration. Now when I start cu <host>, I get the message:

All matching portsd in use.

So I assume I have to reset the port somehow and somewhere. I want to use Taylor UUCP
and I am not familiar with that configuration. But also minicom does not cooperate.

1. Any problems with dialin/dialout modems?

I've been tasked to connect a 2400 Baud dialin dialout modem to an RS6000
350 running AIX 3.2.0 (haven't got the 3.2.1 upgrade yet).  Anyone done this
and are there any problems involved?

Also, where would I look in info (or can someone send me) on the proper
RS232 cable for a 350 (it has a straight DB25, not the funky 10 pin connector)

Are there any pointers on creating a CUA device, turning getty's, etc?
