PCMCIA Modem not identified

Post by Louis Ciott » Fri, 06 Nov 1998 04:00:00

I am trying to get my PCMCIA modem to work on my lap top, and it does not
get identified correctly, I keeps on getting found as a generic memory card.
The card has no name brand on it, so I have no idea who made it.  Any ideas
on how to fix it.

I am using Slackware 3.5 on a Fujitsu Lifebook 435Dx...

Thanks

Lou

Yes I am sure it is a modem, it has a generic label on it that says v.34+
33.6 fax modem, and it also works as a modem in window$.  I know it is not a
winmodem, because I did not have to install any special software to get it
to work in window$.

on the back of it, it has the following:

PCMCIA            Fax/Modem
MD33602            FM336lk

and then a bunch of FCC information.

I had a PCI Winmodem that I could not identify to find a driver for a
while back.  I do not remember where, but there is a website that you
can put in the FCC info and it will return manufacturer info on the
device.  Not much help since I don't know the URL, but at least you know
it's there if you can find it.

Well I was able to get on the FCC web site (www.fcc.gov), and I found out it
was made by ACTIONTEC Electronics.  I went to their web site, but their was
not useful information there since all of the information is geared to
either Mac, or a M$ OS(i.e. DOS, window$).  I was able to find out that it
uses a lucent chipset if that helps....

Thanks

Lou

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if it uses a Lucent chipset, I
think it's gonna be a winmodem.  If so, you can't use it with Linux.

If this is true, I never installed any divers in win 95 to make it work
there,  just lugged it in, and it worked right out of the box...I will se if
I can contact Actiontec to see if I can find out....

Thanks

1. pcmcia modem is not working

i plead ignorance.
please point me in the right direction.
i have a generic pc card modem on my laptop,
it works fine with w98 and linux,
but i cant figure out how to run it with freebsd
i suspect i need to add a pc card support module to the kernel,
but i'm not sure because i have never messed with this before
and fear change.
i installed 3.3 freebsd off cd, and have not done any customizing
to the kernel to date.
btw, i tried querying modem with kppp, it finds it ok,
but the output window is blank, whereas under linux it is
full of juicy tidbits re: modem setup.
thanks,
igor
