On an IBM i Series laptop with Windows 98 installed, I am trying to
partition 1 Gb of free HD with fips and am getting the following error
message:

Error: Unknown file system: 0Fh

The full debug info follows.  Can anyone help?  Thank you!

Checking root sector ...
Info: Partition table inconsistency

FIPS has detected that the 'physical' start or end sector
(head/cylinder/
sector) do not match with the 'logical' start/end sector. This is not
an error since the 'physical' values are redundant and not used anyway.
There are many configurations where the values differ. This message is
meant only to inform you that FIPS has adapted the 'physical' values
according to the current drive geometry. So don't be alarmed by an unex-
pected cylinder range.

If that 0Fh is the same type that Linux fdisk shows as type 'f', then it
is a Win95/98 extended (LBA) partion.  Strange that your FIPS does not
recognize this when it says it has FAT32 support.  But see below.

How many logical partitions are in your extended partition?  Are any of
them empty so they could be removed or made smaller with Win98 FDISK?

Type 4 and 6 are FAT16 types.  Doesn't this contradict the "FAT32
Support"?  Sounds like you need a newer FIPS version.

1. FIPS: Error unknown file system: 55h

Hi,

I'm attempting to use FIPS 2.0 to make a 2nd partition on my Windows 95
hard disk formatted as FAT32.  The error shown in the subject line
is followed by "Only DOS partitions can be split (system indicator
byte must be 4 or 6)".  Previous to all this I also get "Warning:
Partition does not end on cylinder boundary: partition 1".

The FIPS 2.0 fips.doc file says "NEW: Windows 95 FAT32 partitions
are now supported."

Any ideas on what to do to make FIPS happy?

Thanks,
Kent
