Help: RH6.1 PLIP netmask: Host name lookup failure

Post by Yu Qian Zho » Sun, 31 Dec 1899 09:00:00

I'm trying to connect my laptop with a PC using RH6.1's
netcfg. When I activate the plip0 interface, the following
error is reported:

    netmask: Host name lookup failure

and ping, telnet don't work.

Can anyone give me some hint on what's going wrong? the
following is my configuration.

Thanks.

YuQian

P.S.
The same configuration worked well in RH6.0.  And my PC
is just changed to connect to an ISP via PPP, do you think
this is the cause of the problem?

1. "Deferred: Name server: nohost: host name lookup failure"

I'm running sendmail 8.6.11, the Linux 1.2.1 kernel, and Linux libc 4.5.26.

When I try to send mail to a host that doesn't exist in my domain, e.g.,
"nohost", sendmail reports "Deferred: Name server: nohost: host name lookup
failure" for three days instead of immediately bouncing the message with "Host
uknown".  I believe that this problem is new with either a recent version of
sendmail or a recent Linux kernel.

My /etc/host.conf says: "order hosts, bind" and "multi on".

Does anybody have any suggestions about what may be causing this or how to fix
it?
Thanks.
