XFree86 4.1.0 only allows 640x480 (with CT65550) (please...please help...)

Post by J » Sun, 06 Jan 2002 04:43:17

I'm trying to get X working at 800x600 with 4.1.0 on a Toshiba
Satellite Pro 435 CDS running RedHat 7.2.  I've got X running (after
copying the chips driver from 4.0.3 due to the Signal 11 bug
[http://lists.debian.org/debian-x/2001/debian-x-200109/msg00032.html]),
but no matter what I do it only displays at 640x480.  It says 800x600
has (bad mode clock/interlace/doublescan)...which I have no idea how
to fix.  Changing refresh rates doesn't seem to help ;-(

X used to work fine in RedHat 5.x and 6.x at 800x600.  I can't figure
out what's going on.  Please help...I'm beginning to lose my hair.  I
even dropped back to 3.3.6 and still no luck.  Thanks very much!

John

You'll find the output from X, my XF86Config, and my XF86Config-4

Run Xconfigurator in textmode. Are you sure your monitor can handle
800x600?

Failure is not an option. It comes bundled with your Microsoft product.

Yes...

That's the wierd thing.  It's a laptop (Toshiba Satellite Pro 435 CDS)
but absolutely supports 800x600.  I ran RH 5.2 and RedHat 6.0 at
800x600.  Now, I've dropped back to RedHat 6.2 to try and get it to
work and still can't seem to do it.

But, to answer your question, I am positive it works at 800x600.  I
can boot up Windows at 800x600.

Thanks,

John

I was able to get it to work at 800x600 using 8 bpp...must be
something with the driver.  Hopefully this will be fixed in the next
release.  If anyone has any more info please let me know.

Thanks,
John

1. Sendmail problems. Please please please please help!

Just setting up FreeBSD 4, and I notice a number of differences in the
sendmail config system.  All good, I hope.

Anyway - My problem is a fairly simple one.  I cannot forward mail to my
internal machines.

/etc/mail/virtusertable:

/etc/mail/sendmail.cw contains esb.co.uk

Mail is recieved by the server, but mailq gives me:

                                (Deferred: Name server: euro2.esb.co.uk.:
host name lookup failed)

The DNS is set up okay as far as I can see...

Should the last full stop be there in the deferred message?  If not, where
will it be getting it from?

Help?

Matt
