Blaster 6x problem

Blaster 6x problem

Post by Brent Humphre » Wed, 25 Oct 1995 04:00:00

I have a new Blaster 6x CDROM drive.  According to the tech support this
is a true IDE drive and so the interface on my SB16 sound card will not
work with the drive because the interface is propriatary (??spelling). I
had to change the jumpers on the controller card supplied with the drive to
get it to work in DOS.  Now I am faced with the problem of trying to get
the thing recognized in Linux.  I have a precompliled Kernel with the
sbpcd driver in it.  This thing will not recognize it with anything I
have tried so far.  I would like to compile a new Kernel with the idecd
driver in it but I cannot get it to complete the compile.  I get to the
part where you make zImage and it goes to work for just a few minutes and
then halts.

My question is, how can I get the thing to compile and what is the best
way to get support for my CDROM?

Thanks for any help.  Sorry I do not have the error message from the
compile handy.

if possible respond via e-mail

Can anyone help me?  I am trying to install Red Hat Linux off the
O'Reilly and Associates CD.  I csn't get Linux to recognize my cdrom
drive.  I called O'Reilly and they told me there was no patch for it out
yet, but that maybe because it is plug and play that was screwing linucx
up.  Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks
