LILO problem with IDE+SCSI HD

Post by Mikael Adolfsso » Fri, 09 Aug 1996 04:00:00

Hello,

Can anyone tell me how to setup LILO with both IDE and SCSI harddisks.
Linux is installed on my IDE-drive, and I'm running DOS on two
partitions on my SCSI-drive.

When running 'lilo' I get the following message: "Must specify LOADER
for bios 0x81". Apperantly something is missing in my lilo.conf listed
below. (I can install lilo, if i comment the 'other'-section.)

I know it's possible to configure the system like this, since I have had
my system configured like this before, but I lost my linux-partition
(including lilo.conf) when reinstalling Win95.

Thank you!

LILO problem with IDE+SCSI HD

I believe that if you are trying to boot a non-linux OS off anything
other than the first IDE disk you need to specify the boot loader in
your lilo config file (e.g. "loader=/boot/any_d.b").  I think there are
three loaders you can use: /boot/chain.b  /boot/any_b.b   /boot/any_d.b

I think you want to try one of the latter two.   You should read the
README documentation for LILO (it's under /usr/doc somewhere on my
system), or at least read the man page for lilo.conf.

1. Problems with an IDE HD and new SCSI HD

I've got 2 Adaptec 1542C SCSI controller cards with a SCSI CD-ROM and
tape drive hung off one of the cards.  I decided to add 2 560M SCSI hard
drives to the second card to supplement my IDE hard drive.  I put the 2
drives into my /etc/proc file, fdisked, formatted, and made them mount
on /backup and /storage.  Upon reboot, I went into the SCSI Controller
software and made sure that they were being recognized.

When I boot up, neither hard drives appear in the bootup messages.  Is
there something that I have forgotten?

Direct emails are appreciated, but not necessary.
