Rerouting /dev/midi and /dev/sequencer to tiMIDIty?

Post by Joel Hard » Mon, 24 Feb 1997 04:00:00

Does anybody know if it's possible to reroute /dev/midi and/or
/dev/sequencer to tiMIDIty?  I'm stuck with a WSS card with no
wavetable, and the GUS patches sound SO much better than OPL3 FM stuff.
My guess is that tiMIDIty can't do it now, but I do know that it
wouldn't take too much extra coding to get it to work.

If you're willing to pay, you can have the commercial version of the sound
driver which does exactly that: software wavetable emulation. For more
information, see http://www.veryComputer.com/

1. /dev/midi, /dev/sequencer do not work

Hello,

I am trying to work on midi files with "rosegarden", FreeBSD 4.5. But
the devices midi(0) and sequencer(0) are not working.
I configured the kernel with "device pcm  device pca0 at isa? port
IO_TIMER1", created devices (cd /dev, sh MAKEDEV snd0). cat /dev/sndstat
gives the right answer:
"pcm0: <Creative CT5880A> at io 0xcc00 irq10 (1p/1r/0v channels duplex)"
- card is onboard.
But the above mentioned devices do not work. Trying to look at them with
an editor fails: "no device configured".

Any help appreciated,
Yours

Sebastian
