riva framebuffer

Hi

anyone have some experience using the riva framebuffer console?  I
have it enabled in kernel 2.4.9 (Riva128 card) and it basically works,
but I'm a little stuck on working out the proper form of kernel
bootparameters to control the mode and font: the Framebuffer-HOWTO is
a little hazy/inconsistent on this, and was written before there was a
rivafb driver.  I also seem to be losing the usual virtual consoles,
i.e. the system comes up with a single vc -- is this inevitable?

Heh, following up to myself, since nobody seems able|willing to answer
and I found the answer myself -- so, in case anyone's interested:

oops I had switched to a runlevel where my inittab starts getty on one
vc only.  Never mind.
