Problems with HP DAT scsi on AHA 2920 under linux 2.0.27

Hi everybody...
I've been using linux for a while but I'm experiencing troubles using my
DAT. It is a HP 35470A (rev T603) connected to an Adaptec AHA 2920.
It is normally recognised during boot, but when I issue the command
tar cvf /dev/rmt0 /
the Dat begins working, but after a while it locks up and I get the
message

# scsi : aborting command due to timeout : pid 4031, scsi0, channel 0,
id 3, lun 0 Write (6) 00 00 28 00 00
fdomain: abort
Future Domain TMC-16x0 SCSI driver, version 5.44
scsi0 <fdomain>: BIOS version 3.?. at 0xc8000 using scsi id 7
scsi0 <fdomain>: TMC-36C70 (PCI bus) chip at 0x6000 irq 10
other (8), target = 3 cmnd = 0x0a pieces = 0 size = 10240
sent_command = 6, have_data_in = -1, timeout = 50
in_interrupt_flag = 0
IMR = 0x18f0, IRR = 0x0000, ISR = 0x0000
SCSI Status      = 0x01
TMC Status       = 0xf0 (interrupt)
Interrupt Status = 0x98 (enabled)
FIFO Status      = 0x08
Int. Condition   = 0x00
Configuration 1  = 0x85
Configuration 2  = 0x03

I've tried recompiling the kernel for using future domain chipset in
SCSI kernel, but it hasn't changed anything...
Does anybody have the same problem ????
I've never used a DAT on linux before... Maybe, I made an error
somewhere ...
Any help or advice would be great...
Thank You

I've had the same problem, but then I have a TMC-1610! I don't know
why you'd get that when you have an AHA 2920.  I'm driving a mini-
cartridge drive and get that problem only when tar'ing very large
filesystems.  100 MB has been OK, 300 MB not.  I ran afio many times
without a problem with "-b" and "-c" options giving 2 MB or less
transfer between IO ops and working with a 70 MB filesystem, but
hung up with the two combinations I tried at 4 MB per transfer or
when I tried to afio /.  Sounds like a fdomain.o problem to me.

Someone mentioned TMC-16x0 BIOS version >= 3.2 was needed. I have
3.4.

Anyone know why the tar process can't be killed when a device IO
error occurs.  I have to turn off the drive AND wait for the thing
to time out because it keeps the device busy.  A few times I've had
to reboot to free up the device.  (I thought Linux was a one-time-boot
system.)

Aren't those using the same future domain driver?

1. AHA 2920, AHA 2940W, AHA 2940??

Hello guys,

I've read a series of post reciently about these three SCSI controlers
(AHA 2920, AHA 2940W, and AHA 2940).  Until seeing these posts I was did
not know that there were two 2940s, I thought the 2940 *was* the Wide
SCSI.  Now, from the recient postings, I could not tell which ones worked
with linux.  I'm in the process of buying one the AHA 2920, (the order is
made).  However, If it doesn't work with linux I'ld like to know so I can
change it for one of the other two.  The only thing that is explicitly
supported by the latest kernel that I've seen is the AHA 2940.

Any news here? Thanks,

Jason
