"start process: connect: Connection refused"

"start process: connect: Connection refused"

Post by Donald C. Linds » Sat, 04 Nov 2000 12:42:48

I just upgraded from Red Hat Linux 6.2 to 7.0.

Now when I run applixware, the popup never arrives. Instead stdout
(not stderr) gets

        start process: connect: Connection refused

Nothing in /var/log/messages.
I tried nuking ~/.Xauthority. No help.
I tried "xhost +localhost" and "xhost +". No help.
"top" shows X runs, briefly.

Does anyone have a clue?

Just a shot into the dark -- years ago I'd the same problem,
say the same error came up and what cause it was the C++
library.

So if it's not too much ado try the libstdc++ that comes
with 6.2. Set your LD_LIBRARY_PATH to /tmp for instance
if you can put it there and give it a try.

With RH 7.0 the problem might be even simpler as in my
case as then the C++ libraries were assumed to be compatible
which might not be the case RH 6.2 -> RH 7.0.

Hope it helps, but I'm not a RH user,
Juergen

I downloaded glibc-2.1.94-3.i386.rpm, an "errata" RPM from Red Hat.
One of the 9 fixes in there was _my_ fix.

1. "Connection Refused" when trying to connect via X from PC

Hi alll,

I get a "Connection Refused" message when trying to connect via Xwin32  from
PC to NetBSD server.

I can login with root via telnet.

The "xhost +" command on BetBSD gives "cannot open display "" " on the
telnet screen or on the VT220 terminal connected to my server.

What can I do to get a Xwindow please ??

Many thanks!
