Trouble with GCC

Post by Frank Turne » Sun, 21 Mar 1999 04:00:00

I am using RedHat 5.2,
and am trying to install GKT 1.2 and glib.1.2 .
But, I get the following error on both installs...

checking whether the C compiler (gcc ) works... no
Configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler
cannot create executables.

I have GCC  2.7.2.3-14...

The biggest thing that I want is to get a version of ICQ working,
So if anyone can help me along that line, that would be AWSOME!

Thanks!

1. Trouble building gcc-2.7.2.2/g77-0.5.20 on linux

Hi all.

In the interest of having a working gcc/g77 combination, and because
of conflicting problems with g77 and gcc rpms, I've decided to take
the plunge and build this "monstrosity" :) from source.

Early on during the 'make bootstrap' I get syntax problems, in
alias.c:

alias.c:1382: redefinition of `find_symbolic_term'
alias.c:393: `find_symbolic_term' previously defined here
alias.c:1413: redefinition of `find_base_term'

alias.c:985: `end_alias_analysis' previously defined here
make[1]: *** [alias.o] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/gcc-2.7.2.2'

Can anyone offer assistance? I just retrieved these files from
prep.ai.mit.edu; they seem to be the latest.
