Redhat 5.1 Linux - Diamond 2001/ARK2000 Video resolution problem

Post by Rich Shelto » Tue, 29 Sep 1998 04:00:00

I'm a newbie to Linux and just installed 5.1 on a P133 with a Diamond 2001 2
MB ark2000-based video card.  The card is recognized properly during
install, but only lets me run it at 640x480 or 800x600 at 256 colors
(8-bit).  Its a 2MB card that ran fine in Win95 at 800x600/16-bit.  Am I
missing something here?

I reran the install (I'm still too clueless to mess with the config file...)
and manually chose the 2MB option.  At this point I selected 800x600/16bit.
Xwindows said this was unsupported and wouldn't start.

All help greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,

Rich Shelton

Hardware group removed as this is not a .hardware issue.

Well it is now time to get your hands dirty.
Edit /etc/X11/XF86Config and look for where
the memory is specified. Change this to the
correct value. It is most probably set to
256Kb.

I had bugs with my video card in RH 5.1.  Try using
the command xf86config, then answer the questions
step by step.  The program you probably have been
using is Xconfigurator.  To start that type it just like
I spelled it.   Remember to stop the X server, if
the configuration does not work, press CRTL +
ALT+BKSP.

Good luck with Linux

1. Diamond 64 2001 Series w/ARK2000 chip

I was wondering if anyone has successfully setup X for this card.
I tried download the 3.1.2g beta's SVGA driver (the single tar.gz file)
and tried to config. No luck.  Only a generic VGA mode is detected.
->300x200 mode is beung used..

Any help will be appreciated..
