1. ISDN cards and SMP - 2.2.14
I've hear it said that ISDN cards aren't supported with SMP kernels.
If I compile a kernel with SMP and ISDN support I get a whole bunch of
messages of the form:
depmod: *** Unresolved Symbols in /lob/modules/2.2.14-6.0/misc/isdn.o
and also for
isdnloop.o, isdn_bsdcomp.o, hisax.o, eicon.o
but also
wtd.o, wavefront.o, sound.o, soundcore.o, sb.o and loads of others.
Can I take to suggest that multi-processor machines will not only fail
with isdn, but won't do sound and a shed load of other stuff because of
broken drivers ?
If I try and load an isdn driver after booting with:
modprobe -v hisax id=SedlbauerSC type=15 protocol=2 irq=11 io=0x278
it fails saying:
/sbin/insmod /lib/modules/2.2.14-6.0/net/slhc.o
/lib/modules/2.2.14-6.0/net/slhc.o: unresolved symbol
printk_Rdd132261
and in addition to printk, gives similar responses for memcmp, kmalloc,
kfree and ip_fast_csum. It finishes by reporting:
/lib/modules/2.2.14-6.0/net/slhc.o: insmod
/lib/modules/2.2.14-6.0/net/slhc.o failed
/lib/modules/2.2.14-6.0/net/slhc.o: insmod hisax failed.
Is SMP support still developing ? It seems a bit odd that SMP support
in drivers isn't routine. Does it really make driver development much
more difficult ? Is the situation any better in RH7 or kernel 2.4 ?
Cheers, J/.
