ifconfig sees eth0, but nothing seems to work

Hi all!

I'm setting up a Linux system at my office.  It is the Linux 1.2.1
based Infomagic April 95 release.

After building the system and rebooting, ifconfig shows that eth0 is
configured as the IP addr specified, and the netmask is right.

Everything appears ok, but I can't even ping the machine next to it!

Any ideas?  I`ve switched cards...  I've switched cables...

I've run out of rope!

Richard

You might want to try recompiling the kernel and make sure that your ethernet
card is supported by the kernel.

Do you have routing setup between the machines correctly?

That's what 10Base2 cable is for! :)

It was an IRQ conflict!  I reconfigured the eth0 card to use a
different interrupt, and voila!  It works!

THanks!  I needed the <grin> on that!

1. ifconfig sees eth0 but no ping?

I have just installed Slackware to a 486 dx 33
All the packages intsalled fine but I can not use TCP/IP services

ifconfig shows that I have an IP address that is valid
for my subnet.

On booting I can see the my NE2000 compatible card is identified
by the kernel.

Why can I see it via ifconfig but not when I ping the box?
I have run netconfig many times to no avail.

Could it be an irq?  I have tried it on 5 and 10, but no luck.

Thanks for any help,
Matt Kressel
