Slackware 3.2 can't print

Slackware 3.2 can't print

Post by Bazel » Thu, 22 May 1997 04:00:00

I just installed Slackware 3.2 and on my pentium.  When I try to print
I get the following error:

Get_local_host: hostname "darkstar" bad

I tried changing the /etc/HOSTNAME file but that didn't work.  If I
login as root and do a

cat testlpr > /dev/lp1

it goes to my printer, but I have to press "form feed" on the printer
to get it to come out.

How can I fix this?  I have an HP LaserJetIIIp.

Thanks

Do you have a entry "darkstar" in you /etc/hosts file ?
Good luck.

1. HELP: my printing screwy with Slackware 3.2

Since installing Slackware 3.2 I've had hosts of problems
trying to print.  A simple:

        lpr file.txt

yeilds errors:

 Get_local_host: hostname 'topper' bad

and a simple shell script for gs to print the attached ps
file:

        gs -dNOPAUSE -sDEVICE=ljet4 -sOutputFile=/dev/lp1 $1

does lots of initializing, but then bombs with no printout:

... misc initializing of other fonts ...
Loading Courier-BoldItalic font from
/usr/lib/ghostscript/fonts/ncrbi.gsf... 579192 566707 0 done.
Error: /invalidfileaccess in --.outputpage--

--nostringval--  --nostringval--  --nostringval--

any tips / pointers to RECENT printing FAQ's would be helpful.  It's
such a pain not being able to print.
