GID displayed as numbers only

GID displayed as numbers only

Post by FEEB » Sun, 31 Dec 1899 09:00:00

I have a weird problem with RH6.1.

If I do 'ls -l' as root, I get both owners and groups displayed verbally.

If I do 'ls -l' as a user, I get groups displayed as GID numbers.

Works the same in tcsh, bash and ksh.
RH6.1

BTW, I have several RH6.1 installations, but this phenomena only occurs on
one of them.

I would appreciate any ideas - perhaps I am overlooking something too
obvious :-)

Thanks

Of course, as I said, too obvious to notice :-)

One of my housekeeping scripts, that checks on /etc/group had a typo in it
- darn!

Thanks
