troubles installing mandrake 7

After what seems like a succesful setup, my machine reboots and start
loading linux. However, it will not not boot without the boot floppy I
created during setup, although  I did install LILO.
But, the thing is, when it gets to a screen with a penguin, the screen
starts flashing. Between the flashes I can catch a glimse of status of my
CPU or something, and a login prompt at the bottom of the screen.
However, when I try type the login name I created during setup, nothin
happens on the screen. What am I doing wrong?
Please Help

1. Trouble installing Mandrake: hangs on ISO 9660 Extension: RRIP_1991A

I'm trying to install Mandrake 7.0 on a computer that doesn't have a floppy
drive.  The computer boots from the linux CD ok, when it gets to the
"second stage installation" it throws up an error:

        _X11TransUnixSocketConnect: Can't Create: errorno = 111

(or something to that effect, it scrolls too fast)

then it continues on and then suddenly hangs at the line:

        <7> ISO 9660 Extension: RRIP_19911A

I never ever get to the initial installation screen...

Is the X11 error significant, or the fact that I don't have a floppy drive?

Any suggestions?
