SyQuest SparQ as boot drive

Anyone had any luck using a Syquest SparQ drive as a Linux boot drive?

I can use it as a regular drive once the kernel is loaded via another means,
but I would ideally like Linux to boot straight off of the SparQ with no
reliance on boot floppies or boot files on an existing harddrive. That is, I
would like to be able to just pop in my SparQ cartridge like a floppy and
boot up.... anyone able to do this?

When I try... I just run into LILO problems such as the dreaded "L 01 01 01
