Post by 3da17.. » Thu, 10 Oct 2002 02:23:58

Hi,

I just can't install my soundcard. I follow every step of the
alsa-project website. I can't go through the "modprobe" step. Debian
just return that it can't find module fm801. It is very annoying. Can
somebody help me ?

Thanks in advance,
Soriyath S.

Thanks a lot. But I can't understand "h/w" ? is "/model" a command ?
Soriyath S.

I have Debian 3. There's something with a module soundcore, which is
installed as a module. Everything goes fine, except that "modprobe
snd-fm801" doesn't work. The error message is "Can't find module :
snd-fm801". I also tried "snd-cards-fm801", but it doesn't work. I
installed (./configure --options;make;make install) and everything
worked (for alsa-driver, alsa-lib and alsa-utils). I tried with
Alsa-0.5.12 and Alsa-0.9rc .

Hope that you can help me more. Thank you.

He needs the make and model of your soundcard. h/w means hardware.

You need to read throughly the Alsa documention to find out
how to set up your card.

uuuumm. make/model means: "make" is manufacturer and "model" means
the specific item from the manufacturer. for example:
"porsche" is the 'make' and "911" is the 'model'.
"smc" is the 'make' and "SMC1244TX" is the 'model' of NIC

... h/w is an abbreviation for "hardware"  (think: HardWare)

Manufacturer is ForteMedia, model is ColorMAX SP-804 (sound chip is
ForteMedia 801 PCI 3D).

H/W : AMD Duron 1G on ASUS A7V266E with ATI Rage 128, Realtek PCI
Ethernet, etc. (hard drive, floppy ...)

1. Alsa on Debian3 - modules problem

Hi all,

I have installed alsa-source 0.9r3 on my debian woody system,
but sound will not work. Volume is set, and aplay says the
wav file is sent to the soundcard.

Best clue is that the log says that snd-card-0 is not found.

Can someone with a similar installation post the part of their
/etc/modules.conf that sets up the alsa modules?

I still have part of the old alsa 0.5 setup in /etc/alsa and
I think this may be messing up the insall.

TIA
