/usr/sbin/pppd does not exist or is not executable

Post by Evan Panagiotopoulo » Fri, 06 Mar 1998 04:00:00

linux people,
After I start the startx interface I select the network configuration
tool. I create a new interface. I enter all the needed information and
when I try to activate the connection nothing happens with the modem.
In the modem tool I have selected the correct modem port, com2. In the
/var/log/messages I see the following message:
            /usr/sbin/pppd does not exist or is not executable

Thanks a lot

Are you sure that PPP is installed and the kernel is configured for PPP?

  Another cause may be that, if you were using an old Slackware, the pppd
binary was in anoher place, sort of /usr/lib/pppd if I remember well.

My suggestions to follow should help if you are using RH5.0 -
otherwise, they may or may not be of help.

In the "network configurator", when you created the new interface, you
should have clicked the tab "Interfaces" and then clicked on "Add".
Then at the "pick list" you should pick "PPP"

Your must fill in the telephone number, the account name and password.
You then should fill in the following type of information for the
connection:
  Hardware flow control
  Abort connection on well known errors
  Line Speed: 115000
  Modem Port: /dev/modem
  PPP Options: <blank>
Networking -
  DefaultRoute
  Restart PPP on failure
  All other entries: <blank>
PAP -
  <no entries>

If you are not using the "usernet" program to toggle the interface
on/off, then you can set the interface ppp0 as "active" directly from
the network configurator by selecting the ppp0 interface and clicking
on "Activate".  At this point you will know whether or not your ppp
interface will dial up the ISP or not.

If it does dial up the ISP and maintain a connection, then the
question will arise, is the protocol working correctly.  In order for
everything to work correctly, there must be a pair of DNS IP's listed
in the file "resolv.conf".

If you are using "usernet" program in X-Windows to toggle the
interface on/off, you will need to download the later version of
"usernet" from RedHat, because the one that comes with RH5.0 is
broken.

1. /usr/sbin/traceroute ha1 ksh: /usr/sbin/traceroute: not found

/usr/sbin/traceroute ha1
ksh: /usr/sbin/traceroute:  not found

The system is System = SunOS
Node = xxx.ddd.com
Release = 5.6
KernelID = Generic_105181-15
Machine = sun4u

How? Why?  I have traceroute on SunOS 5.7

download it and compile it like the way
a c compiler and gzip were missing!
Can it be true?
