Hi!.. I have a Pentium PRO 200 32 MBs of RAM, 2 3.2 GBs HDs one with
Windows95 and the other one with Slackware 96 ,, well I had rebuild the
kernel and set the configuration for my Sound Card (Ensoniq VIVO
Soundscape 32.) well It's PnP as well as my modem.. I got them working
because of my PnP bios.. well.. the the kernel gives me this message
when I boot..

Sound initalization started
<Ensoniq Soundscape> at 0x320 irq 10 dma 3

<MPU-401 0.0 Midi interface #1> at 0x534 irq 7 dma 0,0

ad1848: Auto calibration timed out(3).
Sound initalization complete

well I can play CDs and listen to my modem... but nothing. else...

according to the readme.cards file it says that the PnP version of this
card its not supported.. well but I'm playing cds.. so I was wondering
if sombody got it working...

I have that Shareware program to make the SC work,, and it did worked..
but it shuts down every 10 min.. so I want to have it working 24 hours a

Soundscape VIVO is completely different design than other Soundscapes. Even
it's sometimes detected as a Soundscape, it will not work. In theory it's
possible to get it working as an MSS device but doing this is very tricky.

OSS/Linux driver (http://www.4front-tech.com/linux.html) supports audio
features of VIVO (support for MIDI should be released within next months).

Best regards,

Hannu

1. Ensoniq Soundscape PnP vs. linux

Has anybody gotten this sound card running under linux?  I've followed
the Sound-HOWTO, I think, including booting linux via the LoadLin after
Win95 has initialized the card, but I've not gotten linux to see the
whole card.  Specifically,

cat /dev/sndstat

shows that the synthesizer part of the Ensoniq card isn't connected to
linux.

It could be that I'm not configuring the linux kernel properly.  I'm
using kernel v2.0.0 and the included version of the sound driver.  I'm
picking "Ensoniq Soundscape" from the list of possible drivers, even
though I've got the unsupported PnP version.  To find out what IRQs and
DMA channels to use, I'm using the information provided for the sound
card and for the system by Win95's "My Computer" screens.

One possible disconnect is that the linux kernel configuration refers to
an "Soundscape initialization DMA" which isn't mentioned in Windows.

Is it possible to get this PnP card working with linux at all?
I'd appreciate any help that anyone can provide.  Thanks.

If I get it working, I'll publish the specific methods here.
