ram detection

Post by phert.. » Sun, 10 Sep 2000 16:54:23

I just installed Mandrake 7.0 on a celeron 333 with 128 mb of ram but
linux says that my total ram is 65 mbs.  Windows detects 128.
In lothar under memory it says:
TOTAL: 64
USED:  49
FREE:  0
SHARED: 36
BUFFERS: 0
CASHED:  12
I also found it weird that I never have more than about 3 megs free,
even when I have nothing running.
thanks in advance for any help

Hi,

add the following to your /etc/lilo.conf:
append="mem=128M"

As far as I remember (not entirely sure), whatever is SHARED or CACHED is
available to the system.

cheers,
rude
