Getting X to run (everybody's favorite past-time, it seems).

I got a "Diamond Stealth 64 Graphics 2001" PCI video card, with 2MB DRAM.  The
monitor is a "GVC" model M1566LR.  Although in Windoze the 1024x768x256 colors
resolution is not the highest I can do, I can't get X to come up with the
standard SVGA 800X600 config file.  startx blanks the display, but that's
about it.  Switching back via the ALT-F key reveals the following messages.
This is the Slackware 3.1 kernel, with the SVGA X server loaded:

I got the same card and it works splendidly. From what I can see is that
u run the X version 3.1.2 directly from the Slackware distribution. As
far as I remember the full release 3.1.2 did not yet work properly with
this card. Get urself the Beta G version of XFree86-3.1.2 and u'll see
the card works with only a minor detail problem.

So long

Thank you.  I independently reached the same conclusion an hour ago, after
three days of hair-pulling.  The official version of XFree: 3.1.2 in the
standard Slackware release does not fully support this video card
_automatically_.  Fortunately, I kept the little manual for this card, and the
little information there is there does mention the fact that the card uses an
ARK2000PV graphic chip.  Looking through the 3.1.2 documentation, I see that
this chip cannot be always autodetected by the SVGA server.

After putting in a chipset line in the Config file, I can get the SVGA server
to come up in 640x480 mode.  If, after playing with the Config file some more,
I can get the server to come up in 1024x768x256, I'll happily wait until
3.1.2G comes out of beta, which, according to their home page, will include
full support for the card.

Send him your XFconfig file and he can start working from there. It is
possible that may be some setting he is missing etc .
