Fdisk error with >1gig HD??

Post by M. Ell » Sat, 18 Mar 1995 17:11:43

I just installed a new WD 2GIG SCSI 2 HD. When I run fdisk on it any
partition that stretchs beyond the 1GIG mark shows up with an error
saying the partition has differant physical and logical start/endpoints.
These errors ONLY occure past the 1GIG mark.

Can I ignore these messages or do I need to go adjust them by hand so
as to be correct?

WD 2 GIG SCSI 2 HD

This is the ONLY HD attached to the system. I'm not using DOS/WINDOWS/OS2
at all on this system. I originally planned just 2 partitions (Linux&Swap)
but triing more still did not aleviate the problem. Did I miss something
in the docs/HOWTOs?

1. SCSI HD>1gig, need Extended BIOS Translation?

Hi,

I have a question regarding a 1gig SCSI Hard drive.  It is 1050mb formatted.
I am going to use it for both Linux and Dos.  I also have a Adaptac 1542CF
SCSI card.  My question is:

1.) do I have to enable the Extended BIOS Translation support for > 1gig
drive?  (which can be enabled using the SCSI on-board BIOS)

2.) I will partion about 400mb for DOS...(everything else will be for
the Linux...yah!!! :-) do I still have to enable the
above-mentioned option...DOS will not see my HD if that option is
is not enabled even though I only give 400mb to DOS? Is that true?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Jack
