Mail

I just setup Linux from the Slackware 3.0 CD and have been having a
play with the mail program.  Although I have read every faq I can get
my hands on, scanned the newsqroups and asked several people I have a
small problem that I am sure has a simple answere but eludes me.

When I log on as root and use mail to send a message to a local user
and then log on as that local user and attempt to read the mail I get
the error ' /var/spool/user's name Permission denied'.

I checked the permissions of the directory and file and they are set
to rw for all groups.  I could change them but it doesn't seem logical
that the installation process would set the permissions wrong so I am
assuming I need to set something in a configuration file somewhere.

Things appear to be installed correctly as I can mail a message from
the local user to root and then logged on as root read the mail.

Any help appreciated, TIA.
