Debian boot problems

Post by hands » Sun, 09 Feb 2003 22:36:36

Hi there,

Newbie to LINUX.....I have 2 hard disks, and I decided to install Debian
onto dev/hdb....during setup it tells me I can press shift on PC power-up to
select OS. But this does not work.
I've tried setting BIOS to boot from disk 2, but I get a strange prompt :
MBR: FA

..if I press A, I then get :
MBR :1234AF

None of those keys do anything. The only way I can get debian to boot is
using the boot floppy :(

Any help greatly appreciated.

Install lilo or grub, they will give you a menu where you select which OS
you want to boot.

Did you install a (new) boot manager, like LILO or GRUB?

If you're running Windows NT or 2000 on hda, there's a HOWTO
explaining how to use its boot manager to boot Linux.  There are also
commercial boot managers; personally, I installed SystemCommander
under Windows 2000 and use it to boot LILO.

By 2007, we said one year ago, "No one will be fired for recommending Linux."
Shortening our own timeline by four years, we suggest that an IT buyer might
already be fired today for failing to consider Linux.

1. debian: booting problem!

Hi all,

I am using debian, and just installed caudium, after i restart my linux,
it shops after caudium starts, and waiting forever.... now,i can't go to
debian anymore, and i don't have a linux bootdisk, is there anyway to
stop this software running. Caudium is the first service starts to run
after init, so that i can't telnet or ssh into my linux. Any ideas for
fixing it? thanks:)
