bug in lilo?

Post by BlindSmur » Fri, 16 Oct 1998 04:00:00

I installed linux slackware, it works perfectly but I can't boot except
from a lilo boot disk. I installed lilo on my /dev/hda's mbr and when I
try to reboot I get an infinite loop showing "01 01 01 01 01 01 01 01
...." until I reboot. I also tried setting my second hard disk as master
and installing lilo on its mbr, but I get the same problem. Is it an
error in my lilo.conf or a bug with my computer/hard disks? Are there
known way to fix this or is it a "new" bug?

I installed loadlin to boot until I can fix lilo, but it doesn't work
either. It boots correctly
until it says "Unable to initialize console". How can I fix this?

If it can help, here's my partition list
/dev/hda1 (fat32)
linux is installed on /dev/hdd1 in /linux (umsdos)

something I forgot..
I also installed linux on an ext2 partition on the same computer before, and
I got the same bug with lilo. So I tried to reinstall
it to a dos partition to see if it would fix something but it didn't.

What does your lilo.conf look like?

1. LILO--LILO--LILO

here is my problem----i have 2 physical hard disks --the primary master
has NT
and the primary slave has LINUX(red hat )--i have LILO boot which has 2
images---x(for linux) and nt.

i wanted to upgrade my linux6.0 to 6.1 and so i booted from the cd-rom ---
but it
would give an error saying that "ext2 file system not found" and would
hang.

so---i disconnected my primary master(NT) hdisk and proceeded with the
installation which was successful.

now , at LILO boot when i give X IT SAYS "LOADING X" and stops....it seems-
the LILO is not able to relate the X image to the primary slave.

can you help me to set the LILO properly.....i will be very thankful.
