FVWM won't shut down!

Post by Russ Militell » Sat, 09 Nov 1996 04:00:00

Would any of you knowledgable linux guru's happen to know why FVWM
ver 1.24r will not close prpoerly?
I use <cntrl> <alt> <backspace>, so I guess I'm  actually closing down
the X server.
When I do this at the end of a session, the window manager closes down
to the wallpaper. The Wallpaper remains and the computer locks up.
The <cntrl> <alt> <backspace> command fails to take me back to the
command line in non window manager mode.

Any comments, suggestions, or opinions are much appreciated,

X windows shuts down much more gracefully if you first shutdown
any X client programs that are currently running.  If you already did this
and are still having trouble, try closing fvwm through the Popup Menu.
The default configuration should have something like this:
        Exit FVWM....Yes, Really Quit

Russ,

Look in your .xinitrc file and where is invokes FVWM make sure
it uses "exec" at the beginning of the line.

1. FVWM won't shut down!

look in your .X or .x files...one is a file with fvwm in it make sure
that is the LAST line...to exit X you must quit what ever is run
last...so by killing fvwm if it is on the last line like it should be
you will exit out of X.
i am realy sure that will be your problem, lines after fvwm maybe in
.Xdefaults look though and move those lines before the one with fvwm.
good luck,
pablo
