Slackware setup

Post by Umberto Colett » Tue, 09 Mar 1999 04:00:00

I'm  installing Slackware Linux version 3.6.0 downloaded from the
http://metalab.unc.edu/pub/Linux/distributions/slackware/

I have creating partitions for Linux in a second hard drive, as  you can

see here:
Device    Boot   Begin Start End   Blocks    Id   System
    /dev/hdc1          1     1    261  2096451    6   DOS 16-bit >=32M
    /dev/hdc2         262   262   268  56227+     82   Linux swap
    /dev/hdc3         269   269   527  2080417+   83 Linux native

the Source is the directory " Linux"  in the dos partition  dev/hdc1,
with some disksets:  a1 to a13, ap1, d1, n1 to n9 and x1.

After I have selected  the TARGET (dev/hdc3) , the SOURCE and SELECT
disksets, the setup
start to install A but immediatly send this message:

------------------Selected series not present-----------
Warning:

Can't find a disk series a in the source directory.
Skipping it......

can you help me to solve the problem and start the installation?

Thanks

the way that  I usually do the slack install is to mount the install
directory before I run setup. so I would do
cd /
mkdir slack
mount /dev/hdc1 /slack
then choose your source directory to be a premounted directory, and then
it will ask you where it is, so you would say
/slack/Linux

one thing that you might want to double check is that it really is Linux,
and not linux. the way you would do that is after you mount /dev/hdc1 to
/slack do a
cd /slack
ls -al
and see if it is Linux or linux

hope this helps.

cheers,
Mike

1. Q:slackware setup not recognize my second dos partion on setup, help!

don't know if this is the answer, but ...  From what I remember, you
can't boot to a partition over cylinder 1024 ...  Make sure that the
extended partition is under that ...
