Quarter-Inch (1/2") Tape Drive and Linux

Post by Daniel P. S » Thu, 10 Aug 1995 04:00:00

Does anyone has any information on a PC interface card (ISA) for an
"industry standard" 1/2-inch tape drive, and (of course) Linux driver?
The hardware interface consists of two 50-position connectors.

Thanks in advance.

Is this a question about 1/4" or 1/2" tape drives?  The subject mentions
both!

1. mkdev with a quarter inch tape drive

Herbert Rubin wrote (on comp.unix.sco.programmer):

The generic answer is `mkdev tape`.  There are lots of details, which
might possibly have been communicated to you if you'd named your
operating system and version, and the hardware you are installing.
`1/4" tape drive' narrows it down to about 5 different major
technologies, 10-15 manufacturers and >100 models, many of which have
special requirements (or aren't supported at all).
