That depends largely on your BIOS -- definitely the BIOS on your SCSI host
adapter, and maybe (I'm not really sure) on your motherboard. I know that
I'm able to boot from Linux (or other OSes) on my third physical disk,
using an NCR/Symbios 53c825 host adapter. If you have any OS (FreeBSD,
OS/2, etc.) on your third or fourth physical disk, you'll probably be fine
with Linux. If you have problems, bear in mind that you don't need much
on a Linux install partition; you could put aside a small partition (just
a few megs) for a /boot filesystem, for instance, or use LOADLIN from DOS
to boot Linux, and put everything else on a non-bootable partition.
