Linux Compiling Problems

I'm having trouble with my compiler in linux, GCC 2.7, with Slackware 3.0.
When compiling things, It will drop out with a fatal error. I was told that
This was due to corrupted memory. Any comments?

The most obvious comment is "Are you so shamed by this that you feel
compelled to post anonymously?"

GCC has a known problem when it runs out of memory.  How much VM=RAM+swap
do you have?

How much does he need?
I got the same problem and 16+17=33 Mb VM. Any suggestions on how I can
fix this is very welcome indeed.

1. Linux Compile Problems

yes, I did.

It turned out it was the version of gcc I was using.  I was going to go
back and install the gcc without the g77 front end, but it turned out
that the latest release of the gcc RPM that includes the g77 front end
worked fine (gcc-2.7.2.3-5.i386.rpm from the red hat user contributed
RPMS directory).
