Trouble initializing DHCP

Trouble initializing DHCP

Post by morr.. » Sun, 31 Dec 1899 09:00:00

I am pretty new to Linux, so please bear with me.  I have Compaq Armada
M700 with an internal PCI ethernet card.  When I look in
the /var/log/messages file, the eepro100.o seems to load but there is a
message stating that the PCI BIOS has not enabled this device.  When
the OS attempts to start DHCP, a message gets logged stating that the
resource is temporarily unavailable.

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
Ben

Try turning off PnP in BIOS.

My BIOS is pretty limited - it doesn't allow me to disable PnP.

1. trouble with AIX dhcp client / Cisco dhcp server

I'm trying to get my AIX (5.1L) box to be a dhcp client using a Cisco
dhcp server. The server works fine with Windows 98 machines (grr),
but, while I can get an IP address and netmask (and then set up
everything else by hand), I can't get the server to return a default
route, or nameserver, or domain name to my AIX box. I've tried almost
every conceivable configuration in /etc/dhcpcd.ini, but the settings
there seem to have no effect whatsoever. A trace reveals the the
server returns the IP and netmask, lease times, etc., but never the
other parameters.

Anyone have any experience with sort of problem?

Thanks,
Curly
