Sorry to stick a "Me too" message in this thread, but I'm having the same
problems you're having. Makes sense since I have the exact same video
card.

I know what you mean. I'm going bonkers myself.

I found that strange too. Are they *supposed* to be the same thing?

I have a CTX 15" - came with my Zeos Pantera. I'd appreciate it if you
give me a ring in my e-mail box if and when you do get the solution.

Thanks.

I observe the same behavior of my screen, and even worse: the mouse
behaves as if all screen objects were on their right places. For
example, the cursor changes its shape when it THINKS it crosses a
window boundary, not when it REALLY crosses it!

I have gotten XFree86 running on my P100/Diamond Stealth 64 Video, 2 mb
VRAM... My only complaint is that it looks like somehow about 25-40 pixels
got chopped off the left side of the screen and pasted onto the right.
For example, if you click to open the pop-up menu near the left side of
the screen, a piece of it will show up on the right edge of the screen!
Why???  Its like that section just wraps around.

To me, the symptoms suggest a software/configuration snafu rather than
a hardware problem or sync problem.  I've gone blind on my XF86Config
file, and it looks like everything is set right. Perhaps if someone
sent me their XF86Config file, or simply the ModeLine section I could
derive what I am doing wrong.  This is driving me nuts....  If anyone
knows what is causing this, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

PS: I tried several window managers, including fvwm, twm, and tvtwm - they
all do the same thing.
PPS: I am using a Panasync C1381 if that makes any difference (don't see
why it should....)

did you specify  Option "Diamond" ???

if this doesn't help, please send be the complete server output and config
file and tell be how many pixels in which video mode & color depth
(please a bit more precise then  "about 25-40 pixels" which is far too
much even for not using Option "Diamond").

WHEN ?  at least, when it is suggested in the README.1st file
which was in the same tar archive as the server, so it's
not possible that you didn't get it.

WHERE ? answered in README.1st  (and many other XFree86 READMEs ;-)

RTFR and RTFR.1st!

| Yes, I see the same problem on my Stealth 64 Video, 2mb VRAM.
| The driver is XFree X311u2S3.  The resolution is 1024x768.

I have a S64 Video 2mb vram running fine with X311u2s3 in resolutions
up to 1280x1024. The only 'gotcha' was that I had to set both:

option "diamond"
option "nolinear"

before it would do anything, let along start X.

Yes, I see the same problem on my Stealth 64 Video, 2mb VRAM.
The driver is XFree X311u2S3.  The resolution is 1024x768.

This problem does not exists when I run Windows 3.1.

I don't know why the display is shifted and how to fix this (I can't
reproduce this problem) but to avoid the mouse position problems
you can add

        Option "sw_cursor"

to the device section in your config file.

_I_ think it is not a driver- or card--specific bug. I use a VLB-ET4000W32
gfx-card and had experienced this wrap around effect myself. It occured some-
times on switching back to X11 from TTY. I couldn't figure out when it
happens ... sometimes it did ... most of the time it didn't ...

I could "solve" this wrap around problem with switching to TTY and back to
X11 ... but sometimes it needed more than one try ...

option "diamond" fixed this problem for my Stealth 64 Video 2MB VRam (175Mhz-OEM).

Has any of you guys been able to get it working reliably, even with
this bug? In my case all the darn machine freezes up once in a while,
and if I start X-server with 16bpp, that freeze-up will come within
an hour, and "xdvi" will bring it immediately. In 24bpp, even "xv"
causes this freeze-up.

Now - for how long are you able to run the X11 without the need to
reboot? What kind of motherboard do you use? What type of cache?
What CPU chip?

Thanks! [Please reply via e-mail.]

I had the same problem with X312S3.  At the same time, the mouse/cursor
was displayed just 25-40 pixels to the right of what the mouse button
was pointing at.  It made it really difficult to cut text with the
mouse.

On Diamond's linux web page, http://www.diamondmm.com/linux.html, I
found the following:

XF86CONFIG Excerpt under XFree86 3.1.1u2 or 3.1.2
       Section "Device"
Identifier "Diamond Stealth 64 VIDEO VRAM (968)"
           Option     "dac_8_bit"
           Option     "Diamond"
       EndSection

Even though it says except under 3.1.1u2 or 3.1.2, I tried it anyway.
No more wrap around.  :-)

Actually it says "excerpt" not "except".  For 3.1.2, the dac_8_bit
option isn't needed because it is used by default on boards that
support it.  The "diamond" option is only required if the server fails
to recognise the Diamond BIOS (check the server's startup messages to
see if this is the case).

Besides the problem described above I am happy with my DS 64 Video, 2mb
VRAM.

Note, that I *need* the XFree 3.1.2 server, which supports an option
"slow_vram": I had strange vertical lines on the display otherwise.
