win for WG and SMB password??

win for WG and SMB password??

Post by Dan Sawye » Fri, 03 Oct 1997 04:00:00

Hello,

I am stuck on getting SMB running from Win for WG and Linux. The system
is RedHat 4.2 and Win for WG. The win can find the server, but it cannot
differentiate the service. No matter what service, ie share, is
attempted it requests a password.

How can I get SMB to list shares available? Whose password is failing,
Win or Linux? How can this be debugged?

Thanks,

Dan

1. SMB passwords and e-mail passwords

Hi,

I've created a few users, and each one has a unique password on the linux
(server) machine. The SMB passwords are, however, blank, so that the user
wouldn't get confused when he needs to enter the password at Windows start.
And everything works fine. The problem is that I want to enable the users to
send e-mail to each other. Now, to send an e-mail the user needs to enter
his linux password, but he isn't supposed to know it.

The question is: how can I set my pop3 server (newest qpopper) to use the
SMB passwords instead of the linux passwords? I haven't found anything
related to this in the qpopper documentation, so I hope you can help me.

Thanks, Csaba
