Zip Zoom SCSI card not working

Zip Zoom SCSI card not working

Post by Me Myself and » Thu, 19 Jun 1997 04:00:00

I just upgraded my motherboard this weekend to a Tyan Tomcat IIID with dual 166MHz processors. But I'm having some problems with it in linux. Everything worked great on my old motherboard but on this new one, the kernel checks every ID on the SCSI card and finds none of the devices (although it works fine in NT4.0). I have an internal SCSI ZIP drive and Toshiba CD-ROM drive connected to it.

The SCSI card is a ZIP Zoom (comes with internal ZIP drive) which I believe is a stripped down version of the Adaptec AHA-152x. The kernel is still compiled for a uniprocessor and uses a modules for the SCSI support.

My /etc/rc.d/rc.modules loads the proper modules for interface, CD, disk support. The entry that initializes the Adaptec card reads:
        /sbin/modprobe aha152x aha152x=0x170,7,1
(This may not be exact since I'm not at my computer)

I know that the timer on my Turtle Beach Monte Carlo sound-card is interfering with the clock generator on my motherboard, thus the CPUs are running at 147MHz instead of 166MHz. Other then that, I don't know why any of my hardware is not functioning properly.

I would greatly appreciate any help. I have a lot of data on my ZIP disks that I'd like to retrieve, but they're formated for ext2fs (only readable by linux). Thanks in advance.

(Sorry about the other post. This should be easier to read)

Zip Zoom SCSI card not working

These cards indeed use aha152x driver, but they don't have BIOS so they
can't be autodetected. The default config is 0x140,11, so you have to provide
it to the driver:
        insmod aha152x aha152x=0x140,11

I don't remember what to put in /etc/config.modules: something along the lines
of
        define scsi_hostadapter aha152x
        options aha152x aha152x=0x140,11

1. Iomega SCSI Zip drive and Zip Zoom card

Hello All,

I have a Zip Zoom SCSI card installed in my computer at the mo., with a
SCSI Zip drive attached to it. This is recognised at boot time, and works
fine.

On page 8 of the SCSI Zip manual, it says "you can connect other SCSI
drives to the Zip drive using another SCSI cable (usually a 25 to 50 pin
cable)". So from this, I guess that I could connect a SCSI tape drive
(say) to the Zip drive, assuming the ID's and terminators are set
correctly. If so, I guess you can attach more than one other device
(perhaps upto 7 to it)? Am I right in thinking this ??? Has any one tried
attaching other devices to a Zip drive hanging off a Zip Zoom card???

If anyone has tried this 'at home', I would be most interested to hear
from them.

Thanks in advance

Will.
