Compiling kernel 2.0.30 problems.

Post by VanderBi » Wed, 04 Jun 1997 04:00:00

Hello all,

I want to make my linux machine (RedHat, kernel 2.0.18) a router for
our local lan to the internet. So I figured out I had to recompile the
kernel to include ip_masquerading. I downloaded the
kernel-2.0.30-2.src.rpm file, ran it through rpm and tarred into the
/usr/src directory. Next I did "make config"  "make dep" and "make
clean" (do you regocnize which HOWTO I follow here?) On the final
part, the "make zImage" it goes wrong. After a lot of messages the
compiling process gets stuck with the following line:
entering directory /usr/src/linux/driver/block
<some gcc lines>
gcc <-instructions> ide.o ide.c
Compiler gets internal error 11
Leaving directories etcetera.

Anybody seen this before, or know what I have missed before I should
start the compilation?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Greeting from Holland,

Gert-Jan van de Bilt

Sorry to have bothered the whole community with this trivial (after
seeing 3 postings with exactly the same errors) problem :)

I've taken the advice from other questions, and checked both DEJANEWS
and FAQ, which explained exactly what to do.

That is probably some erratic library error, try reinstalling the entire
development kit again, then recompile the kernel.
