RedHat 4.2 wont install cause of SB16 on IDE 0

Post by kdiet.. » Sat, 27 Sep 1997 04:00:00

I am trying to install RedHat linux 4.2 from the CD. Their
installation program runs off a floppy.
However, I can't get RedHat to recognize a SoundBlaster 16
on IDE 0. I dont have any dip switches to adjust to change the IDE #,
as suggested by their FAQ.
The CD does'nt allow daisy chaining. The SB doco says its located
on IDE 0, yet RedHat does'nt see it. Slackware can see it !?

 Error message is:
"cannot mount /dev/sbpcd, invalid option." or similer.

Any help would be appreciated.

You're trying to hook your sound card up to your hard drive controller?!

The only thing that makes sense here is that you're talking about IRQ, not
IDE, but IRQ0 is never used by a sound card; it is for the timer.  I believe
the SB16's IRQ setting can be set by the driver and doesn't need to be set
by jumpers.  Try using 5 or 7 for the IRQ.
