1. HELP: Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 03:41

I just installed LINUX and had to rebuild the kernel after modifying
the sbpcd.h file in order for linux to recognize my CD-ROM.

Everything works fine now (It recognize my CD-ROM) but just befor
entering multi-user, I get the message:

Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 03:41

I'm running 1.2.8 (Or 2.1.8 ?) and I'm using my 2nd HD as a native
Linux partition (/dev/hdb1)

NOTE: Linux ran FINE before I rebuilt the kernel but did not recognize
my cd-rom.

Here is how I proceeded:

0) Take a backup copy of /vmlinuz
1) Booted Linux at the LILO prompt (Booted on my HD)
2) cd /usr/src/linux
3) Make config; make dep; make clean; make zImage
4) Make zdisk just to be safe (I wanted to be able to boot with
diskette)

Now, both my floppy and my HD linux's won't boot ! Where did I goof
and is there a way to fix it without having to 'Re'make the whole
thing ? I tried rdev -R but that does not seem to work...
