DIP, $remote for dynamic IP

DIP, $remote for dynamic IP

Post by Jeff » Tue, 23 Jan 1996 04:00:00

Hello!  I spent a few days working on a DIP script and finally got one
to work.  I used a bogus remote setting:

get $remote

Otherwise, DIP complains that it doesn't have a remote setting, and
bails out.  Exactly what should the remote setting be?  I use a dialup
server whose 'name' could be ndts[1-6].ndsu.  Is this what I'm supposed
to use for remote?  It seems to work fine with the bogus
setting - should I just leave it be?  Hmm.

1. dynamic PPP IP reporting to remote known IP ?

On Mon, 13 Dec 1999 15:34:15 -0700, Brian Dudek pontificated:

Do you have an email address that you can retrieve from without going onto your
ppp  box?  If so, you could write a script, which would be called from your
/etc/ppp/ip-up script, which would tail /var/log/messages, and mail you the
output.  It's what I do if I want to look at my home system from work, since
my connection only lasts for 7 hours.
