signal 7 - abnormal termination RH6.1 install

Post by elma » Sun, 31 Dec 1899 09:00:00

Oh assembled guru:  I keep getting a "signal 7" abend to my attempted
installation of RH6.1 (custom, both gnome & KDE selected) onto the extended
partition (lilo to go into /boot, not mbr) of a legacy 496dx2-66 machine (20
megs of memory, 2 gigs free for linux).  what is "signal 7" and how can I
avoid it?  It seems to happen part way through loading packages, but long
before the disk is "full" (unless it's trying to load it into the 16 meg
/boot or the 60meg /swap...)

p.s. this server loses about 50% ofa ll posts.  I'd appreciate e-mail in

thanks

signal 7 - abnormal termination RH6.1 install

Hello there,

I'm having similar trouble.  I keep getting a "signal 9" abend when I try and
install RH 6.2 on an IBM PS/Valupoint, 486 via ftp.  There's about 300mb total
on the hdd but it doesn't make it even as far as disk druid, just goes to "going
to insmod vfat.p (path is null) and then craps out.

Any ideas?

1. kdm abnormal helper termination

Hi, I installed FBSD 4.7 with KDE 3.0.3 (from packages) on vmware 3.2
(windows host). KDE works perfectly from startx, but normal users
can't seem to be able to  run kde, even though I had Xwrapper
installed. So I am trying out KDM instead.

However, running kdm -nodaemon from console (as root) crashed my
vmware a few times. The error being an endless loop of screen
switching and this message: "Abnormal Helper Termination, code 1,
signal 0. IOError in XOpenDisplay. Display :0 is being disabled
(restarting too fast)"

If I try to run xdm, I can see the login screen, but after entering my
passwd it shows the login box again - wierd.

I had followed the insructions in the handbook, i.e. modified the
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm/Xsession file and adding kdmdesktop to
Xsetup_0. I also added a 'vt4' in Xserver. I searched thru the google
and this ng, but no solution that i can find. Anyone faced this
problem b4? Thanks in advnace!
