Helps if you provide what distro and release level you are using
when you post questions to the news groups (Redhat 6.1, Suse 5.0,..).
Different distros have different commands, files, and links to
files. Even happens between release levels of the same distribution.

Window manger problem/question give the name (gnome, kde, sawmill,...)

If dhcp client (pump, dhcpcd, dhclient,...)

Give us error messages if you have them.
Look in your logs,  /var/log/messages on Redhat and Mandrake.

If it is a shell question, give the shell name (bash, tch, zch,...)

know how to enter the dial up number into some xterm or in kde. i am not
recieving any error messages because i simply dont know the command to get
my comp to dial out. i know this sounds lame but what i am looking for is
the dial-up connection menue like in win where i enter my calling tele #
user name and pass.

Try "kppp". Kppp is a tool that is rather easy to use. You need to know
 * the telephone-number to dial to
 * your username and password
 * your domain name servers (of your internet service provider)
(* kind of protocol : CHAP or PAP)

The last isn't really necessary, since if it aint the first one, try the
second one :)

1. Connecting to the Internet via Internet service provider (How?)

I want to be able to connect to my internet service provider via modem
with Linux.  I currently use Netscape 1.1 when in DOS.  I know that I
need a graphical web browser like Netscape (I have Xfree86 up and
running ) but what else is needed.  I've heard of 'dip' but don't
really know what it is or why I might need it.  I have e-mailed tech
support at my internet service provider for help but haven't gotten a
response back yet and I am very anxious to get on the web via
Linux....any help would be greatly appreciated.

What about DOSEMU?  What would be the disadvantage to just use my
current Netscape 1.1 (windows) with DOSEMU (if it works)?

Thank you in advance.
