/dev/sequencer and /dev/midi

/dev/sequencer and /dev/midi

Post by Matthew Asplu » Sat, 11 May 1996 04:00:00

I have just set up a linux box with a soundblaster Vibra.  I want to get
doom music and stuff like that working.  I compiled midi and FM synthesis
into the kernel, and doom still says that it cannot open a music device.
I guess that I am a bit uneducated about soundblaster stuff, but what do
I need to do to get /dev/sequencer and /dev/midi working.

Oh, by the way I am running Redhat 3.0.3 with a 1.3.97 kernel.

1. Rerouting /dev/midi and /dev/sequencer to tiMIDIty?

Does anybody know if it's possible to reroute /dev/midi and/or
/dev/sequencer to tiMIDIty?  I'm stuck with a WSS card with no
wavetable, and the GUS patches sound SO much better than OPL3 FM stuff.
My guess is that tiMIDIty can't do it now, but I do know that it
wouldn't take too much extra coding to get it to work.
