Turning off Mail-Watcher in Linux mail

Turning off Mail-Watcher in Linux mail

Post by Jon D. Slate » Fri, 07 Mar 1997 04:00:00

Everytime I get new mail,  by system beeps, and I have 5 (or so) lines
pop up
on my screen.  What-ever it is, also changes my mailbox atime.

First, it is really annoying to have these messages pop up on the
screen
(especially while I'm editing something).

Second, I have another "Mail-Watcher" (TKDesk) that never 'sees' new
mail
because the 'other' Mail-Watcher has changed the access time of my
mailbox.

Where is this other "Mail-Watcher" coming from?  I don't see anything
that
stands out in a 'ps'.  And how do I turn off this first Mail-Watcher?

Thanks in advance for the help!

Jon

You could just hit "CTRL-l" (that's an 'ell') to repaint the terminal -

It's comsat, launched by inetd - to make it go away, edit /etc/inetd.conf
and comment out the line for comsat, then do a "killall -1 inetd".

Blam, problem solved
