LINUX Support for IDE Hard Drives > 1023 Cylinders

My bios for my computer that I want to install Linux on is set
to 1050 cylinders under USER setting.  Do I need to re-format
my drive to make it 1023 cylinders?

Several people have talked about seting up a boot partition.
How is this done.  I have System Commander and I have my
current drive set up with two partitions, (405 M and 100 M).
The 100 Meg is the /dev/hdb.

I can set the/dev/hdb as the active partition, but I still get
that > 1023 cylinder error.

Any Suggestions?????

Thanks,

Barry
