x windows ain't working right

Anybody care to help?

I just finished installing Slackware 4.0 on my desktop but there is some
kind of problem with x windows. It does not work, as in at all. I think it
had something to do with my video card or something like that. Can anyone
help me with this? I know I have to tinker with some kind of configuration
file like a kernel (I know read it somewhere in the books), but I don't
know just which one, and more importantly, how to go about it. Any help
would be most appreciated.

By the way, I am not a really very technical person and I just ported to
Linux a few days ago. ButI was already able to add a new user, start the
vi and do ls -a -l really fast :)

It will really be a great help if someone would give me some kind of
instruction for the configuration. Thank you.

My video card is a viper 550 TNT.

Also, my school's linux computer has this great quotes program which shows
quotes everytime a user logs on. How do I add this to my machine?

If your card is the diamond viper 550, I hear you bud, corel linux worked
fine the first few times but now I get an all black display as soon as X
starts,
though its possible its the fault of kde .... (kde sits on X)

Anyhow I am probably just gona reinstall, as the lack of a screne is making
it hard to get anywhere, that and the safe mode thats so safe I cant type :P
