Hi, I've got a Linux 1.2.13 system on a 10baseT ethernet network. On
the same network is a router w/T1 DS-1 access to the Internet. I've
got the box setup as a mail-hub via Sendmail. Users retrieve their
e-mail from the hub via POP3. Whenever a user's spool exceeds 2MBs
and that user initiates a POP3 retrieval of that spool, the system's
performance suffers BIG TIME. What's happening here? How can I
remedy this? How do I check the status of the swap partition? Also,
I read somewhere that if I wanted to add more RAM to the system, I
would also have to add more SRAM (L2 cache). I can't add more SRAM on
this particular Compaq box. How about if I just get the RAM, say
256MBs, the re-install the kernel. Should I upgrade to 2.0.33? Lots
of questions I know, but I'd greatly appreciate any insights.
