Red Hat PPP Problems (II)

Post by kc.. » Wed, 24 Sep 1997 04:00:00

Hmm...seems my server has been acting up again...

I recently installed Red Hat Linux 4.2 on my computer.  When I tried to
run the ppp-on script, I would receive a 'PPP not in kernel' message,
which was excruciatingly aggravating.  I wasted an egregious amount of
time recompiling the kernel.  I finally discovered that I just needed to
edit ppp-on and change that mess at the bottom of the file; namely, my
modem is on /dev/cua1 (aka com2), not /dev/ttyS0.  That being said and
done, my modem will dial and attempt to connect to my ISP (I hear the
sweet sounds of connection) but then, lo and behold, I am not connected!
Any hints or suggestions would be appreciated.

  Hi there..
If you don't bother to use X-inteface program to connect through PPP, then you may
try this program.
EZPPP, yes you can easily find this program on the sunsite or any web sites. and
as its name imply, pretty easy to install and go. I love this....

good luck.

1. Red Hat 7.1 - Installing Red Hat packages after Red Hat is already installed.

How can I install packages that I forgot to install with the Red Hat
7.1 installation?

Here's my problem:
Various pieces of Red Hat keep saying that I am missing a file and
that it needs to be installed with a certain package (namely most of
the Kontrol Panel).  But I have been unsuccessful at finding where
this is done.  I am still a newbie with Linux, but I would assume that
there should be an "Add/Remove Programs" equivalent with Linux.

Please help!
