ATI All-in-Wonder 128 not working under RH 7.3

Post by Jeffrey Baco » Wed, 24 Jul 2002 10:44:57

ok, so I'm trying to install Linux on my Win2k machine as I'd rather be using it
to it;s full potential.  Anyway, I have Red Hat 7.3 but when I try to install it
XFree86 doesn't like my Rage 128 chip on my All-in-Wonder.  All drivers and
modelines I try will not set the refresh rate high enough.  I have a Dell
UltraScan P1110 monitor which works great in all resolutions in Windows.  No
mater what I try, Linux/XFree86 tried to set my refresh rate at about 1/2 of
what it should be (ie. like 40 Hz when my monitor say min 60) and no picture
will display.

I've heard of other people having similar problems but can't seem to find thier
solutions.  Anyone seen this before?

Jeff

is there a way to provide those drivers during the install or do I have
to download them separately?

If you have a lead plugged into the TVOut socket on the card,
unplug it then restart X.

not really

don't know which distro you are trying to install, but you can just do it
with the mach64 package
if redhat just let the card be autodetected

As of XFree 4.1, XFree86 has gone to a *minidriver* architecture (similar,
oddly enough, to that of *Windows*).

The AIW 128 (used to own one) uses the r128 driver (not the mach64 driver).
A more up-to-date driver is available from http://gatos.sourceforge.net
specifically for the AIW 128.

AGP support is required, and 3D acceleration via DRI is supported.

1. Xfree and ATI All-in-wonder 128 or ATI Rage fury 128

Hi everybody

I want to buy an ATI All-in-wonder 128.
Someone has this Videocard (or another one with ATI Rage 128bit chipset like
Rage fury) together with Linux? About Xfree?
I read the XFree Faq and I saw there no ATI RAGE 128 support...
Afterall can I use just simple VGA (640*480) (or better) even if XFREE
doesn't recognize the ATI Rage 128 chipset???

Sorry for my school english
Thanks a lot
